AKG of America Awarded for Workforce Development

The Mebane AKG facility, was awarded the Regional Partnership Award by North Carolina Department of Commerce Program, NCWorks. NCWorks’ mission is to bring businesses and local talent together, so both can thrive. They assist job seekers in finding employment and companies in attaining worker they need.

The Mebane AKG facility, was awarded the Regional Partnership Award by North Carolina Department of Commerce Program, NCWorks. NCWorks’ mission is to bring businesses and local talent together, so both can thrive. They assist job seekers in finding employment and companies in attaining worker they need.

AKG of America was presented with the Regional Award for its accomplishments and contributions related to North Carolina workforce development. The local workforce board, Regional Partnership, allows each center to choose a nominee. The Alamance center chose AKG.

AKG was a founding member and Promoter of the Career Accelerator Program (CAP) in Alamance County. The CAP program has created a career pathway for students in the field of advanced manufacturing. AKG has also been a significant partner in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) on the job training program in order to train individuals to be a skilled worker in their field. “AKG has been very involved, AKG has made Alamance County a better place,” states Lisa Arnette, Manager of NCWorks Career Center.

Marcelene Cook, Talent and Recruiting Manager of AKG, represented AKG at the awards banquet. She has been an advocate for finding local talent and gave of her time at the employer breakfast sponsored by Alamance Community College, Alamance Chamber of Commerce, NCWorks, and the Regional Partnership Workforce Board. She spoke of how the on the job training program had benefited AKG. Her testimonial was well received. Marcelene’s impact has encouraged other businesses to seek out how local workforce development services can work for them.

AKG has participated in 12 on the job training contracts (as of this date) giving workers new and updated skills. AKG actively promotes the development of workforce as a need for our community to remain strong in the future.

The workforce board backed the decision to nominate AKG of America for the state award also. The winner of the state award will be given at the North Carolina State Workforce Banquet in October in Greensboro.
